TOMMY LEE's Reality Show Is Not A Joke On University

Sioux City Journal has issued the following report:

When rock 'n' roll drummer Tommy Lee descended on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus last fall to film a reality show, there were concerns about how the finished product would make the school and the state look.

Fear not, say those who were part of "Tommy Lee Goes to College" and others who have seen the show.

"We look better than we maybe really are," said Matt Ellis, a Scottsbluff native who was cast as Lee's roommate for the show. "I know I look better than I do in real life."

The six-part NBC show premieres on Aug. 16.

UNL Chancellor Harvey Perlman has already seen a couple episodes featuring the MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer, and they made him laugh.

"I thought the university came through very well," Perlman said. "I think the comedy is a joke on Tommy and not a joke on the university."

That doesn't mean all viewers will be amused.

"There are some things that people with a smaller sense of humor might not find amusing, but it's hard to predict," Perlman said.

If the promotional clip making the rounds is any indication of how the series turned out, the university will be in the middle of all the action.

The promo includes shots of Lee playing drums with the Huskers marching band during halftime of last year's Baylor game at Memorial Stadium. There are also scenes of him struggling in class and being assisted by a tutor, recent UNL grad Natalie Riedmann who is beginning medical school at the University of Nebraska Medical College this fall.

Riedmann, a dashing blonde and former beauty pageant contestant from Omaha who is described in the promos as "Tommy's hot tutor," is already drawing attention. She will be a celebrity judge for Miss Teen USA on NBC Aug. 8 and has done a photo shoot for FHM magazine.

Riedmann, who got cast for the show when producers spotted her on campus, said Nebraskans shouldn't worry how their state or university is portrayed on the show.

"I can honestly say that Nebraska looks good," she said. "There was so much fear they were going to make us look like hicks, but there was none of that on there."
